Hi families!
Report Cards: Report cards will be going home this week! There are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, if your child is not a "3", the goal is to get there by the end of 4th grade. Students develop at their own pace. Second, students will continue to get individualized and group intervention in the areas below a "3". Students who are struggling with fractions will benefit from multiplication and division practice. Please consider helping your child practice these facts to memory. In reading it's equally important for your child to read consistently with a book that is not too easy or too hard at his/her interest level. The research supports that if this happens at school and home, along with quality instruction at school, your child can become a lifelong reader. I look forward to continuing our work together!
Calling All Colors: On Tuesday, December 3rd, our 4th graders are participating in Calling All Colors, a program directed by Mary Alice Johnson and Harold Bragg. Our theme for session one is “reducing stereotypes and prejudice.” During our time together, we will read a story, have a group discussion, incorporate a partner activity, and play a fun game with the students.
EL: As shared at Back to School Night, we are piloting new ELA instructional materials in grades K-5. This resource offers a rigorous and balanced literacy approach for our learners, engaging students in reading, writing, listening and speaking. While our commitment to addressing essential ELA standards has not changed, the order and manner in which standards are assessed in this pilot may be different than in past years. As such, you may not see a reported measure for every ELA standard on your child’s report card. Please also refer to the comments provided, as well as ongoing communication and conferencing, regarding your child’s progress in ELA. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Stuff-A-Truck: Thursday will be the last day to send in items for Stuff-A-Truck. Our Lincoln School Student Council is excited to be leading the way in giving back to the larger Berrien County community by collecting non-perishable (canned goods, boxed dinner/pasta) food items. If you are able, simply pick up an item (or more) at the grocery store, and send it to school with your student to be donated. Thanks for spreading kindness and positivity!
Thanksgiving Lunch: Our Thanksgiving lunch will be on Thursday. Students often like to dress up for this day, but it is not required. If your student does not plan to eat the hot lunch, please send in a cold lunch. Thank you!
Math: Last week, we completed Unit 3. We will plan to take the Unit 3 Test on Monday, and start Unit 4 on Tuesday.
Weather: With the change in weather, please make sure your child has a hat, gloves, a coat, and dresses in layers. We also ask that if possible the kids bring an extra pair of shoes or boots for recess. We allow them to play in the grass when it's wet, only if they have a change of shoes. This new carpet still looks great and we sit on the floor a lot in our room. Thanks for your help with this!
